I was introduced to the possibilities of local music when I first moved to Colorado. It was cool to see so many people who were, well, not cool. It did my heart a lot of good to see people who were mere music loving outcasts such as myself.
The song is also a play on another local band's song, The Symptoms (RIP) Yr Cool. So the last part of the song is actually sung by the singer of that band, giving a wink toward his song. :-P
